I have many times mentioned the  incredibly successful world organization of, NOT FOR SALE. It is an organization that is passionately committed to eradicating the known 24 million human beings on this planet who are enslaved to one form or another of human slavery. Their work is highly acclaimed and supported by some of the most influential figures of our times. The Freedom Shabbat that I hold every year on the shabbat of Passover is a challenge that NOT FOR SALE made to all faith communities to weave into the life of our congregations. As a spiritual preparation for Passover, which at its core comes to shake us out of indifference and complacency and charges us to care for the welfare of those who suffer the same indignities that our people have so often suffered ourselves, I am taking this trip to Atlanta to be a part of the solution.

On Wednesday the 22nd of February, I will be leading a caravan of congregants to Atlanta to participate in and stand up for the fight for freedom for all humankind from enslavement and abuse. I offer you an invitation to join me. We will be leaving Greenville around 1PM on Wednesday. We will find a nice restaurant to have a late afternoon meal and then head for the concert at 6:30.

It is easy to leave this effort in someone  else’s hands as if it is not our responsibility to know and care about the plight of these desperate souls but the Passover hagaddah would say otherwise. Each of us is commanded every year at Passover to do whatever we need to do to feel as if we ourselves had been freed from human slavery. What better way then to do so by showing your care and commitment to the ideals of freedom for all and all for freedom.
