Congregation Beth Israel invites you to join our member families as we honor Harry and Cheryl Gleich on Sunday, March 2, 2025, with the inaugural Shomrim (Guardians) Award for their continued contributions to our congregation and to the wider Greenville community. 

Harry and Cheryl have been Shomrim “guardians” of Congregation Beth Israel for almost 40 years. They have shown their passion for service and leadership as Board members and through many other roles within the congregation. Harry was President and Treasurer of the Congregation and Cheryl served as President of the Beth Israel Sisterhood and is a lay leader for worship services. Harry and Cheryl raised their three sons in the congregation continuing to share their love for their heritage and for the Upstate of South Carolina. 

Upon retiring as Senior Vice President from Metromont, LLC after 36 years, Harry started his own firm, Gleich Engineering where he continues to share his knowledge and experience with others. Harry has served as a leader in the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute and the American Concrete Institute for many years. He has received numerous awards and recognition in these professional organizations. Cheryl is a former Director of Alumni Relations for Greenville Technical College and worked for several non-profit groups. She also was an active member of the Greenville Symphony Guild and other Upstate organizations. Currently, she is on the Board of the Southern Region of Women’s League for Conservative Judaism. At present she teaches classes for Furman’s OLLI Program and has taught in the Beth Israel Religious School.
